Rafael Nadal, Man of the Year?

Rafael Nadal has done what not other ATP player has done before. He has won 10 championships at the same Grand Slam event! The event The French Open Roland Garros which takes place on red clay. Rafa is now without a doubt the King of Clay.

The New Queen of Clay and Roland Garros Champion!!!

In a hard fought and very high level of skill exhibited by both players Garbine Muguruza defeated Serena Williams in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. The balls were flying hard and fast and Garbine brought up her tournament average topspin ground stroke from 73 mph to 76 mph in the championship match. A very aggressive Muguruza kept Williams farther back from the base line than usual. Massive shots by both players kept the audience electrified! Garbine Muguruza, 22 years old wins her first major title in Paris with the Roland Garros title. Will she carry on for Spain as Rafael Nadal has for years only time will tell.  A big congratulations to Garbine Muguruza now a Grand Slam champion!

Florida Tennis

I decided to check Florida's tennis in Venice during May. I noticed the courts in town were full with players even in the heat of the day. Getting away from downtown Venice the courts were used less and there was not any problem getting onto a nice clean public park court. Of course the humidity weighs on tennis players. While there I gave a couple of novices a few tennis tips. The people in the photo are Gerry and Amy DelPrete.

Hells Bells at Indian Wells!

It was quite a final at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 event. The opponents Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. The winner 6-4, 6-4 was Victoria Azarenka. Victoria broke Serena early in the first and second sets moving well and doing a fine job of returning and serving better that ever. Serena had an issue with her racquet tension and sent it back in the beginning of the match to be restrung. later smashed one by the base line and then one at her bench which resulted with a penalty and starting the next game with a point deficit on the board. Azarenka has often given Williams very tough matches but now with new confidence and a great team put together a win.

On the men's final Novak Djokovic gave Milos Raonic a beat down 6-2, 6-0 breaking the Canadian five times. Novak was unbroken in the match.
